Pain-free after 17 years !! Dr. Yasin Ashraf - Specialist Orthopedic Surgery

A young, 37-year-old Filipino female had a fall from stairs as a child when she was 10 years old.  She had recurrent dislocating left hip following that and underwent surgery in the Philippines when she was 19 years old.  The details of that surgery are unknown (most likely an acetabular osteotomy).

Ever since then she has been having pain in the left hip and gradually developed difficulty walking with a limp associated with a 2-cm shortening of her left leg.  Her symptoms became worse and were limiting her daily activities and her job as a shop assistant and also causing sleep disturbance.  She had been seen at various outside facilities and advised surgical management of her condition.

She presented to Universal Hospital, Department of Orthopedics in mid-November 2017, and was seen by Dr. Yasin Ashraf, Specialist Orthopedic Surgery.  After thorough evaluation by him, clinically and radiologically, she was diagnosed as post-traumatic osteoarthritis of the left hip.  It was decided that she would undergo a left total hip replacement.

PRE-PROCEDURE X-RAYS

The patient underwent successful left total hip replacement using non-cemented biological fixation techniques with ceramic articulation bearings on November 27, 2017, by Dr. Yasin Ashraf.

POST PROCEDURE X-RAYS

Following the surgery, the patient has mobilized extremely well and is pain-free and has equal leg length.  She is back to work in full capacity at 6 weeks post procedure.

The below video shows her current functional status…..
