Dr. Fazil Thaha on Epilepsy

Published on Nov 11, 2016

Epilepsy, the fourth most common neurological disorder affecting people of all ages, is caused by a disturbance in the brain where the neurons signal abnormally. Dr Fazil Thaha, Neurologist, talks about Epilepsy and clears out its difference with a seizure.

Epilepsy is characterized by unpredictable, unprovoked, and recurrent seizures and it is more common in early childhood or after the age of 60. This can be caused by head injuries, genetic factors, underlying diseases, prenatal injury, etc. Triggers such as stress, insufficient sleep, excessive alcohol intake, missing drug doses, exposure to light and the like can also induce a seizure. Symptoms vary from every person. Some may display certain “auras” such as staring spells, shaking, or loss of consciousness followed by the fainting episodes, rapid jerking of body parts, drooling, or teeth clenching. After the attack, the person regains consciousness but will be exhausted.

Dr. Fazil Thaha also discusses the types of seizures, diagnosis and complications, treatment and how to safely handle a seizure. Watch the full video for the details.
